826 National: internship opportunity and winter poetry

As we celebrate summer (I'm ghost posting this ahead of time before I head to the eastern Sierras, part of which is still buried in snowfall), here's a beautiful remembrance of those cold days of winter left behind.

This video was produced by the 826michigan's "Secret Life of Winter" workshop in February. Trekking through a snow shower in Ann Arbor's Nichols Arboretum, students "wrote poetry to record their experiences and capture all of the mystery and wonder of winter." These lovely nature poems, set to still photos of their walk, are read aloud by the children who wrote them, along with the sounds of shoes crunching underfoot.

If you or someone you know lives in the SF Bay Area, is a college or graduate student, and has some extra time on their hands, consider becoming an 826 National intern at their 826 Valencia site. You'll volunteer at least 20 hours/week to assist with the day-to-day operations of a unique literary non-profit in fundraising, education, administrative, design, or web/tech projects or public relations. Oh, how I wish I could!

The application deadline for Fall 2011 interns is July 30th.
