Writer's Website of the Week: Laurie McAndish King's Travel Writers News

Laurie McAndish King is an award-winning travel writer and photographer whose humorous essay, "Big Cats, No Guns" appeared in the anthology The Best Women's Travel Writing 2009 right along with my own story "Rite of Passage."

Also a marketing communications professional, King has created an exemplary online platform to promote her writing. (For an example of the possibilities in do-it-yourself publishing, check out her Lulu storefront.)

In addition to her own website, she maintains Travel Writers News (From the SF Bay Area and Beyond), which "lists classes, author readings, calls for submissions, new media info, markets for travel writing, and other information of interest to travel writers and photographers."

As a member and former board member of BATW (Bay Area Travel Writers), Laurie is active networking and teaching in the community. She and the association's president, Diane LeBow, will teach three classes (Jumpstart Your Writing with Travel; Travel Writing -- From the Road to the Page; Marketing, Publishing & New Media) at the 26th annual Central Coast Writers Conference on September 17th and 18th, 2010.
